Abstract

A gravity dam is a large concrete or masonry structure constructed on a river to create a reservoir on the
upstream side. The gravity dam segment has a roughly triangular shape, with the apex located at the top.
The purpose of this study work is to establish a dam analysis strategy based on solid elements using ANSYS
2020 R2 and conventional methodologies. Dams are such enormous structures so that manual evaluation is
impossible. Manually stability analysis is a time-consuming process, it’s much easier by software. The phase
is so proportioned that it uses its own weight to withstand the multiple forces acting on it. ANSYS software is
used to analyse the dam in this research paper. The major objective of this research is to 2D stability analysis
using the 2D gravity method and a 3D finite element stability analysis using the ANSYS 2020 R2 software to
compare the results. After the software outcomes, stress and pressure contours was discusses for concrete
gravity Dam.
