Abstract

Despite of investment in road infrastructure and plans for development in transport development users face the problem of congestion, accidents, and pollution in India. So signal control is economical remedy to reduce the traffic congestion. Now a day’s installation of signals at maximum four legged intersections is common and signal is designed for such intersection. This project gives the idea for reducing congestion, delay and queue length when intersection is five legged. Rotary is introduced when intersection has more than two approaching roads but it has some limitation that roundabout intersection is not recommended when capacity exceeded its limit of 3000 PCU per hour and all approaching roads have unequal traffic volume according to IRC: 65-1976. In this project, study area Mohammad Saab Palya circle has rotary intersection but it fails to serve due to mentioned two limitations. So to reduce congestion of traffic in this area signalised rotary intersection introduced instead of rotary since it is difficultto redesign the geometry of circle due to lack of land acquisition signal is designed for five legged intersection using Webster’s method.Simulation and evaluation of results such as queue length, delay to be done using VISSIM software and for better performance some suggestions are to be recommended.
